I have read many dental books in the past, but The Affluent Dentist would be ranked on the top of my list. There are many insightful things that would save me time and money in the short and long term in owning a dental practice. I would highly recommend this book for anyone thinking of purchasing a practice. The advice easily saved me over $50,000 in my practice transition.

A comprehensive, how-to guide on buying and selling dental practices. Excellent source for dentists.

I have reviewed the book, which is written by a compilation of authors, organizing themselves around the dominant theme of transitions. There are many transitions visited from buying your first dental practice, to associateships and partnerships, to selling all or part of your practice with good content on practice valuations, financing, retirement planning, management, performance metrics, crisis along the career timeline and more.
This is really a "how to" book of resources, connecting the dots of who can assist you in your own discovery along the way in terms of practice brokers, financers, accountants, lawyers, lease specialists and more. The book was written by some heavy weights in the industry and serves its purpose of being the most comprehensive outline of these subjects I have seen in the industry.
If I have one criticism of the book, it is that it is a technical book mapping out the territory but lacks not direction, but navigation. In other words, it tells you the things you have to consider and then by content association, who you can contact for further follow up and/or advice. If I had been asked to contribute to this book, I would have written about "who" you have to become” to be the navigator and that is the hat of the owner, the leader, the manager and the marketer. I would write about "who you have to become" to be able to wear these four hats simultaneously on one head, successfully. Over all, my own hat is off to these authors for getting it together to produce a fine product, a much needed resource.

Just received the book at a recent dental conference and I'm passing it on to a dentist who is looking to retire.
